Moka Pot

The moka pot brews coffee by passing boiling water pressurised by steam through ground coffee. Named after the Yemeni city of Mocha, it was invented by the Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 and quickly became one of the staples of Italian culture.

Fill up the chamber to the top - do not tamp

Let's get started

  1. 1.

Pour boiling water into the water chamber up to the nozzle.

  2. 2.

Fill up the coffee chamber with your medium sized ground coffee. Do not tamp, just level out the coffee.

  3. 3.

Place the moka pot on the burner. As soon as the coffee starts to brew up through the chamber and begins to hiss, take it off the burner. At this point you want to stop the extraction, so put the bottom part of the moka pot under running cold water. Serve and drink.
