Coffee for the Office: A Review

Office coffee... somehow it's just never been a success... So let me give you some insiders tips regarding equipment so we can change the bad connotation with office coffee once and for all.
AUTOMATIC & SUPER-AUTOMATIC ESPRESSO MACHINES
What does Automatic and Super Automatic even mean?
Well, it basically means you don't have to grind the coffee, tamp it, and brew, its done for you with the push of a button. Dont let this discourage you. If your looking for ease- a WMF 1300S or 1500Splus is our suggestion. These German engineered machine gives you precision without you having to worry or much. They come with a mini fridge, meaning it can use cold and fresh milk. It has 2-3 hoppers, so you don't have to top it often, and even a hopper for pre ground decaf, for those crazy colleagues who prefer decaffeinated coffee. Both have a digital touch screen, and options to tailor your drinks if you want to get a bit geeky.
Big office? It can do up to 120 coffees a day. Also its kind of nice looking so can still impress clients who come by. It has an adjustable group head so you can fit all types of cups underneath- can be a pet peeve. The foam is slightly more foamy (dry foam) which could be a downfall depending on your milk preferences. Cleaning is easy and streamlined but the catch is you need to buy the cleaning products (tablet and liquid) from WMF. Overall we agree that it's a superior machine.
Best feature? It has a steam platform so you pre heat your cup.
We like.
SEMI AUTOMATED AND MANUAL MACHINES
Smaller office, or want to explore the world of non automated coffee machines?
Introducing... Sage Machines. These come as fully Manuel aka Barista style- you have to grind, tamp and steam your own milk (Model: Barista Pro). I know, the hassle right, well the Oracle touch, grinds for you, tamps, you simple have to place the group-handle (brewing unit) into the portafilter and select your coffee option. It steams the milk for you but you will have to place the milk jug in the steam wand. It has a touch screen and you can customise your own drinks. The Oracle Touch gives you more control, but you also are paying for it compared to the Barista Pro.
Design wise Sage machines are handsome in my opinion. Also a very nice option to have for home use. If your looking for more of a "third wave coffee" experience, then this your go to. A con? The drip tray fills up pretty quick, but on the other hand, it lets you know with a very polite little sign that reads"Please empty me".
As far as extraction goes, the sage allows you to change the grind setting, allowing for better extraction when changing the coffee beans. Foaming milk means you need a bit of practice but it will give you cafe style micro foam, this is the most impressive feature.
...it lets you know with a very polite little sign that reads"Please empty me".
Really we are not sure why there hasn't been more focus put on good coffee and thereby good equipment in the office. It's kind of always been an afterthought. But if you choose any of these two options then you are already eliminating this gap heavily. In our opinion these machines are the best that the market has ever seen for these prices. Infant most of us have a Sage one at home!
